film exchange

Duo, originally uploaded by At Home With Red.

While I was working this week I was listening to some old and new soundtracks we have. I love films and by writing this post I realize that most of the films I like have great music. Basically I'm a sucker for soundtracks. Here are some of them. In my opinion great films and great music. You can click on the name of the films and see the trailers.

Amoros Perros- "car accident connects three stories, each involving characters dealing with loss, regret, and life's harsh realities, all in the name of love" , Mexican

Babel - "4 interlocking stories all connected by a single gun all converge at the end and reveal a complex and tragic story of the lives of humanity around the world and how we truly aren't all that different." based in Marroco...and by the way Brad looks really good in there...

Piano- " There is a silence where hath been no sound. There is a silence where no sound may be in the cold grave under the deep deep sea.", classic

The End of Affair - the reason I called my company Sarah & Bendrix

Leaving Las Vegas- romantic drama film about a relationship between a suicidal alcoholic and a prostitute in Las Vegas ...Nicolas looks cool as well

The Reader- "WWII Germany: Nearly a decade after his affair with an older woman came to a mysterious end, law student Michael Berg re-encounters his former lover as she defends herself in a war-crime trial"...very strong story and again Raph him

Juno - "Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual decision regarding her unborn child.

Frida- "A biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work", Salma Hayek is brilliant

The Girl with a pearl Earing- "A young maid working in the house of painter Johannes Vermeer becomes his talented assistant and the model for one of his most famous works", sentimental, visually beautiful

The Motorcycle Diaries- "The dramatization of a motorcycle road trip Che Guevara went on in his youth that showed him his life's calling. "

Snatch- Guy Ritchie's gangster story

Dead Man - "On the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange Indian named "Nobody" who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world". ...Johny Depp very best..
I have always loved films and when I was a teenager I used to go to a film club and still remember watching independent movies on Mondays these
Carlos Saura - like Peppermint Frape
What about you ? do you like films? have you got any tips/ recommendations ? any film you have seen recently?

The weather is beautiful, real summer, weekend has just started and I have been working and I will continue to work non stop for a while. I had to close my shop for a week so I can catch up with orders as it went absolutely crazy after I was featured in Real Simple, in their summer gift guide. Amazing, very grateful, but very tired. So this uplifting orange doze should do the trick. Isn't it wonderful, just little pops of this colour, combinations with white, grey, black....all photos houzz

changes at home

11 May 2010

I have moved a few things around in our house this weekend and I'm really pleased with the freshly painted white floor in our bedroom, needs little bit finishing, the edges, etc. but I love it. Not that M. was so excited when he arrived home after his weekend away in Spain, "where is the carpet?!" .." in the bin darling..:)" .. it's not easy to live with me.....have a nice day everyone!

happy mother's day

9 May 2010

Colourful afternoon today at Wisley . These photos are for my mum I can't be with today, as she lives in Czech. Happy Mother's day mummy!

what do I do when my husband goes away ?

...DIY....M. went away for the whole weekend and I've been frantically running around the house and painting and painting and...So far I have moved the picture walls, painted a wardrobe, wall in the kitchen and got rid off a fitted carpet in our bedroom. And! painted the floor as well. Five broken nails, backache and two days later I feel content and satisfied. And we manage to go for a little trip with grandparents as well! But one thing I'd like to recommend, don't try to pull a fitted carpet from a room full of furniture:)..uh. I will share all my home changes with you next couple of days, but now please have a look at this amazing wardrobe idea! fantastic! ...sorry just wanted to add -these photos, project is not mine. Bedroom redone from a very talented Elaine

the selby is in your place

There's this thing we New Yorkers do when we walk down the street. We look in the windows of the other people's apartments. We don't do it in a creepy, stalker way. It's nothing like that at all. We do it more in curios, maybe even competitive way, although that's not to say it's in a negative way either.... (The Selby In Your Place).
I went a little bit crazy at Amazon last week and bought loads of books and this is one of them. Homes and studios, famous and infamous people, interesting, strange, full of details, little stories, incredibly interesting.

czech inspiration- miroslav sasek

2 May 2010

Miroslav Sasek was born in 1916 in Prague and trained as an architect, because his parents didn't approve of him becoming a painter. In 1945 , after the Communist Party came to power, he emigrated and lived in France and Germany. He worked for Radio Free Europe, before he started his first book This is Paris, published in 1958.

The series of books continued with London, Rome, New York, Edinburgh, Munich, Venice, San Francisco, Israel, Cape Canaveral, Ireland, Hong Kong, Greece, Texas, Australia....
I love the bright colours and stylized drawings, they make me really happy.
Sasek books are very collectible now and in last couple of years a lot of them has been reprinted. You can buy them at Amazon and read more about his life and work here.
I was unaware of him for very long time, which is surprising as we are both Czech but sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees. I have to tell my mum about him as well, especially my mum's maiden name was the same as his and she shares her first name Vera with his sister.
I believe some of his drawings would be wonderful posters for kids rooms. Or tea towels? cushions? what do you think?
Have a great day!

hot summer colours

I'm in love with these bright and lively colours from the latest Accessories collection. I usually spend summer in white and nautical stripes but this combination of hot pink, turquoise, red, orange, pink...very tempting. Couple of these necklaces and bangles against white linen trousers and vest would be very nice...What colours do you usually wear in summer? have you got any all time favourites?
