Probably hard to do, but I like the result!
ReplyDeleteI think all of these stairs look great. I can't imagine it would be that hard to do but if you change your mind afterwards it could be quite difficult to strip the paint off again. When my parents first moved into their farmhouse all of the wood work was painted in a dark colour and it took them years to strip everything back to the original wood.
ReplyDeletelove it! i still don't know what to do with the stairs in our new house. would love to paint them mintgreen, but i don't feel like polishing them first :s
ReplyDeleteGo for it :)
ReplyDeleteTwo tips; do not use high shine paint (more slippery), and when you do paint, do only every second step so that you can use the stairs while the paint is drying. Takes more time, but totally worth it!
Btw you have a lovely blog, just recently found it!
ReplyDeleteI love the look. Really easy to do - use an oil and avoid high sheen as skrikkelise mentioned. I like the look of patina on the stairs, but you can freshen it up when it wears.
ReplyDeletethanks for tips everyone! now the battle begins - painted x carpet, me x my husband:)
ReplyDeleteI love the reverse painted stairs where the treads are left partially unpainted. Wish we had done that. It's not hard at all to do. Use porch or oil paint and either paint every other stair (so you have somewhere to walk) or leave a strip down the middle like in some of these photographs!
